How to purchase a new custom domain (URL) from Namecheap

The following is a guide to registering a custom domain name (or URL) for your business. To do this we’ll use Namecheap, the domain name registrar I use and trust myself.

You can register many domain names, and you don’t have to assign them to a website. This is called domain squatting, which can be used to protect your brand or business identity.

Instructions

  1. Open a browser to https://namecheap.com
  2. In the search field on the site’s home page, type in the domain name you’d like to register and click the red magnifying glass “Search” icon.

  3. Select the blue “Add to Cart” button.

  4. Select “View Cart”.

  5. Leave the WhoisGuard enabled, then select “Confirm Order”.

  6. Log in to an existing account, or create a new account.

  7. Select your Payment Method and receipt details, then scroll down and check the “Automatically renew all of my eligible new services before expiration”, then select “Continue”.

  8. Select the Check Out button to complete the order.
